Currently Ten states and the District of Columbia have legalized recreational marijuana use for adults. These states are Colorado, Washington, Alaska, Oregon, California, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, Michigan, and Vermont.
Michigan and Vermont both successfully gained responsible access for adults in 2018, with Vermont being the first state the legalize marijuana use for adults through the legislative process.
In Maine the struggle for marijuana legislation reform came to a head in 2018 as the legislature having to override the second attempt of Governor Paul Lepage to veto a bill that would establish a recreational marijuana marketplace in Maine.
The struggle for marijuana law reform continues to blaze forward with groups like NORML leading the charge marijuana law reform is just around the corner for every American. Soon there will be recreational dispensaries throughout the US. The Cannabis industry is on track for another multi-billion dollar year of sales in 2019 and there is no sign of it slowing down any time soon.
